About Us – Golfing Buddy
My Story – How Golfing Buddy got started.
I am going to give you the long story… So, if you want the short story please check out the video on YouTube or our Facebook Page or find the video on the website.
Just to preference this story and set up the playing field, I am a Hispanic Veteran Female that is an entrepreneur. I began my love for golf a little later than most people it began in my 30’s. My introduction to golf - I had a boyfriend before who loved to play golf and would go every so often with his buddies. We had a great relationship and I would always ask him to teach me to play golf and to take me with him golfing. He would always do two things tell me this was his “Boy Time” and put me off and say maybe one day, well one day never came.
Well I am sure you get what is coming next… So, then that day came where we broke up and I was completely heart broken. So, what did I do to get over him I colored and cut my hair cause that is what girls do and then I took golf lessons yup I now was going to do all the things he would not teach me or do with me? I wanted to show him and give him the big finger and mentally say “Screw You!”
So, I bought some cheap clubs to get started and I got really really lucky and was introduced to the EWGA Executive Women’s Golf Association where I found lots of other female golfers. This group was created to get more women to play the game of golf. I loved it and I met a lot of Professional women who loved to play golf and they were of all playing levels and they wanted to meet other women who played golf too. This group was a HUGE Blessing and they were so welcoming and friendly!
I don’t think people (Men) get it or understand what women feel like when they want to golf at golf courses. Let’s break it down for you so you completely understand the mental trauma.
We (women) get the following feelings:
Anxiety
Nervousness
Feeling of Not Being Good Enough
Feeling Rushed
Being Judged
Let’s just say women hope it is NOT busy or Back Up so they don’t feel inadequate.
It is really hard for an adult woman to want to play golf but also find other women of the same level to play with. Golfing is very intimidating as it is, the people that regularly play golf are your typical old white guy (sorry for being so specific). The other intimidating thing is when you are a solo player or even if there are two of you, what happens is the course will most likely pair you with other players to maximize every opportunity to get more people on the course. Well when this happens guess what happens?
For Women – this creates lots of problems and lots of problems the course is really not concerned with because again they need to maximize every opportunity to fill every golfing slot with people. This does not make the golf course right or wrong it makes the system broken because it does not account for the other people’s needs.
What do I mean by needs.? Ha Ha well let me break this down for you again I am a Minority Female Veteran Player which creates a lot of anxiety for me whenever I want to play golf. Well for those of you who don’t get this - I am judged as soon as I walk up to the course as a bad player or a slow player whether I am or not. And for the record who cares if I am a great player or bad player shouldn’t I have the option to play with others like me and enjoy a round of golf just like anyone else?
Why Can’t I Pick The Players I Want to Play With? Why?
OK hopefully you are getting where I am coming from by now… If not allow me to further explain my golfing problems. Again because of the EWGA I was always able to golf with other women who were the same kind of player I was. This was awesome and it was great to have access to other female golfers. Now I have not been a member of EWGA because I am too busy to commit to the golfing leagues and now, I have a boyfriend who loves to play golf.
So, let’s fast forward to NOW ... and to be exact summer of 2019 I have a wonderful boyfriend who I met 6 years ago. When I met my boyfriend, I was still part of EWGA, and I golfed all the time with the ladies. One day he told me he wanted to learn to play golf and I was totally open to it cause I wanted to have a partner in crime to play golf with. A year or two after we met, I quit my job and became an entrepreneur why do I mention this because it is important in this story. My boyfriend and I played a lot of golf together and he started to love it more than me now. We also got his son to play with us who was 6 at the time we got him into the game to. So, because I had a family to play golf with, I had to cancel my membership to EWGA since I was playing more golf with my boyfriend and his son. And as an entrepreneur I was limited with my time to do recreational things, so I really didn’t have time to golf with the ladies too. I miss them!
Ok back to the story... let’s keep moving the clock forward I am still with my boyfriend and we play lots of golf together… I absolutely love it we help each other get better at our game and we love to try new courses.
Any who... now to the meat and potatoes of how Golfing Buddy got started. My boyfriend wanted to play golf one weekend and it was a beautiful weekend. Just a heads up we live in the Midwest, Milwaukee to be exact, well the people in the Midwest take advantage of great weather when we have it because we have over 6 months of winter. Yup over 6 months so when the weather is GREAT, we get out and enjoy every ounce of it.
So back to the story it is a great weekend and it is fabulous outside, and I had to get a project done I could not get out and play. He wanted to get out so badly and he called every one of his buddies, but no one could get out or join him to play golf. So, he was pouting and moping around the house I felt really bad for him, so I said hey wouldn’t it be awesome if we had an app or website where you could find a golfing buddy.
And BING BING BING Golfing Buddy was born!
Golfing Buddy was created for a couple of reasons:
Golfing Buddy was created to help Women, Minorities, Veterans and Juniors play more golf without feeling intimidated at the golf course by being paired with people that they particularly don’t want to play with.
Golfing Buddy was created to help people like my boyfriend find other golfers to play golf with so they can play more golf.
Golfing Buddy was created to help golf courses get more people paired so more people play golf at their golf course with people they want to play golf with.
Golfing Buddy wants to help people fall in love with the game of golf so they can play more golf!
Help us get the word out so we can all play more golf.
